Welcome...

Being Here"My latest project was recorded in August at Pine Mountain Studio in Alexander Valley. The band included Ricky Fataar on drums, percussion, piano & guitar, Marc Levine on bass & piano and Paul Tyler on electric & acoustic guitar and harmony's, as well as the amazingly calm and collected, Aaron Burnham on sound. As a special treat, Molly Tuttle came up from Laurel Canyon to sing on one of the tracks. Ricky and I co-produced & directed this latest project. The name of the record is still top secret as is the intention but I can promise that it will be worth the wait. We will also plan a CD release party and benefit concert when we have a date of arrival for this record. One of the tracks from the new record will be featured in an upcoming MINI of SF ad. As I wrap up this project, I continue my collaboration with the gifted musician and friend, Bonnie Hayes on a record of original songs that I will record at Pine Mountain Studio. That project should be complete by Spring 2012.

I just returned from my annual fall trip to Paris with Molly Tuttle. This year Bonnie Hayes joined us. Sitting in the cafes of St Germain, people watching in the Garden Luxembourg, floating down the Seine River on a quiet night with friends, going to art galleries, listening to live music, hanging out in dusty bookstores, visiting some of the most incredible churches I've ever seen, a photo shoot at Versailles with the amazing Danielle Rubi-Dentzel ...so much inspiration and beauty all somehow finds its way into my music. Two of the new songs on my 2012 project were written while Molly & I were in Paris last September.

So far this has been a year of sad and satisfying goodbyes, joyous hello's, challenges that I never dreamed I was strong enough to survive as well as gifts beyond my wildest dreams, like meeting Graham Nash at the M.U.S.E. concert in August with the great Bonnie Raitt. I am grateful everyday for the sun shining and the calm I feel as I drive over the beautiful Golden Gate Bridge to my studio in San Francisco. Life is really a state of mind...

Please subscribe to receive e-blasts for the latest information as well as news of upcoming projects and live shows.

New CD: Being Here

Being Here"Being Here" is a project near and dear to my heart. The 70's Americana vibe is deeply rooted in the music I grew up listening to in Detroit. I am sure I spent everyday after school learning the songs of Joni Mitchell, CSN & Y, Buffy St. Marie, Carly Simon, Arlo Guthrie, Carole King, etc. The songs on “Being Here” came from my observations in my own life and those of people around me. Watching a friend go through an unimaginable loss, feeling the joy of a love so pure, saying goodbye to someone I loved deeply, saying hello to a new life, standing up for what's right and saying goodbye to what's wrong...being present in each and every day...and being grateful for all the blessings...these are the songs on "Being Here". I would love to hear what these songs bring up for you.

Christmas on Pine Mountain

Christmas on Pine Mountain"Christmas on Pine Mountain" is a benefit CD for Meals on Wheels-San Francisco. The idea for this Christmas record came to me as I was going through a box of old ornaments, remembering the happy Christmas memories of my childhood. I hopes that the songs will bring a bit of holiday cheer and some happiness for the listener. When thinking of Christmas I always remembers my family and especially my Grandmother who put enough love in my childhood to sustain a lifetime. Please remember that every CD purchased will help the people involved with Meals on Wheels in San Francisco. Spread the love...Click to the news page to read a review of this record.

Music: Do you hear what I hear?

No Virginia, not all holiday music is lousy...
by Greg Cahill Pacific Sun

Remembrances of the childhood sounds and smells of the holiday season--Grandma baking cookies and Dad singing his favorite Christmas songs--inspired Bay Area singer and songwriter Michelle Schmitt to record Christmas on Pine Mountain, a heartfelt mix of originals and country-inflected classic carols.

But there's nothing sugary about these songs.

Harrison Street RecordsHarrison Street Records has expanded...

Michelle and her team of engineers have completed her new state of the art recording studio in Alexander Valley called Pine Mountain Studio. Located in Northern California, Michelle and her band enjoy the benefits of getting away from it all and focusing solely on the music. It's a recipe for more amazing music.

Michelle and her band have recorded 2 records in this studio already. There is something about being in the beautiful California wine country that creates so much room for the magic to happen. Pine Mountain Studio is a throw back to the 70's with walls filled with Michelle's original albums from that time. "I have such a special place in my heart for the music that inspired me to play guitar and sing when I was a young girl. Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Arlo Guthrie, Buffy St. Marie, Carole King, Jesse Colin Young, and many others." All the feeling of that time is captured within the walls of this amazing studio nestled in the woods of Alexander Valley.
